Aline aims to capture the present moment with poeticism and humor all wrapped up in a bow of timeless country melodies. She is original and cunning in her songwriting and lends a nod to ever inspiring songwriters such as John Hartford and Lucinda Williams. Drawing you in with her candid lyrics and pure country croon she can tell an entire story in one sentence with her unique voice. Inspired by the likes of Emmylou Harris and Gillian Welch the spirit of old time country/western music rings loud in her music and is uplifted with a modern dose of Americana.
* “As a lyricist ,Aline has a knack for saying things in a way you wish you had said them. She wraps the lyrics around a warm blanket of musical goodness that makes you want to listen again and again.”
~Murray Pulver, producer and musician (The Bros Landreth, Crash Test Dummies, Doc Walker)
Aline was born of French Canadian and Doukhobor heritage in the small mountain town of Nelson, British Columbia. Her musical journey started at the ripe age of 7 when she picked up the viola for the first time. She got her chops studying classical viola through the Suzuki Method, running from rehearsals and lessons to chamber music then orchestra. At 11 years old she was the youngest to sit as first chair Violist for the Edmonton Youth Orchestra.
A nomadic childhood, bouncing back and forth between BC and Alberta, forced her to become wallflower of sorts. From a very young age she became fascinated with observing others, collecting stories and philosophies from all walks of life. This ignited her traveling spirit, before the age of 20 Aline had already travelled extensively throughout South and Central America. This experience of travel has shaped her songwriting style and approach to life. Music is now a gift that allows Aline to fulfill her dreams of being a world traveller.
"Aline Deanna's heartfelt slice of life songs draw you in and take you on a rich musical journey.”
~Don Kerr Producer and Musician (Bahamas, Ron Sexsmith, Dan Mangan”)
Classical music ignited the fire in this skilled musician but is no longer what keeps her stoked. After years of studying Jazz violin at Selkirk College and a double major in Music Production and Composition she eventually turned to her true love: Country, Bluegrass and Folk. Aline has played alongside many musicians such as Shawn Hook, Maddie Storvold, Tenise Marie, Anna Katarina, Robin Jackson, Lewis Childs, Brett Hinders, Murray Pulver and many more. She has performed at The Oregon Country Fair, Kluane Bluegrass Festival, Yukon, Kaslo Jazz Festival, Kaslo, BC, Woodstove Festival, Cumberland, BC and Tiny Lights Festival, Ymir, BC. She has toured across Europe, Canada and The United States. In support of her upcoming record she will play 20 shows across Belgium, Germany, Netherlands and Poland.
Her upcoming record “Wild Rose & Salt Water” releasing September 19th, is an anecdotal collection of songs written over the last two years inspired by her move from the BC mountain peaks to the ebb and flow of the Pacific Ocean. The first single “Roadrunners” releases August 1st.
